“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.” (Psalm 111:10)
“Fear of the Lord” is not being scared of God as if it would be treacherous for us to approach him. The fear mentioned here is a deep reverence for the Lord, a heart that recognizes his holiness, goodness, and authority, and who we are as we approach him.
Living long enough to obtain wisdom from our experiences does have some value, but the wisdom from God goes much further. The more we obey God’s commandments, the more insight and understanding he gives. And the more we know his Word, the more we realize the amazing wisdom of keeping his commands. Jesus gives us a good perspective and an undeniable truth in John 7:18, “Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.”
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your wisdom. I know that it exceeds the wisdom of man, and we are truly blessed to know you, learn from you, and apply this knowledge and wisdom to our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
