“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11)
Scripture is here for us to not only read, but to claim. If we actually take the time to memorize some of it, it can be internalized; it can become part of us. I’m not talking about long passages of scripture, but a lot of times it can be just 1, 2, or 3 verses that send us a message for us to take seriously.
In times of doubt, worry, or frustration, read Proverbs 3:5-6. If we are concerned about the future of our children or grandchildren, read Proverbs 22:6. If we are struggling with temptation, read 1 Corinthians 10:13. If we need more strength in order to cope in our daily lives, read Isaiah 41:10. The list goes on and on.
Pick out some of your favorite verses and write them down; ones that really stand out to you. You don’t have to memorize them word-for-word, but keep in mind how the Lord is speaking to you. He speaks to our hearts and wants us to be confident and trust in him and his word.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for speaking to us through your word, through our experiences, and through the fellowship and worship with other believers. We are forever grateful for your faithfulness and help us to remain faithful to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
